CITY’S POOR GET SICK, RICH GET DRUNK

A data-base project i did, compiling health data for different areas of Sydney. The analysis reveals stark differences in the health of the rich and poor in Sydney, with almost all the highest rates of deaths and hospitalisations linked to conditions such as diabetes, body mass and heart disease clustered in the poorest areas.

SUPERBUGS BESIEGE NSW HOSPITALS

Several NSW hospitals regularly fail to meet national infection benchmarks, according to information released under freedom of information. Many experience infection peaks lasting months, exposing uninfected patients to the deadly golden staph bacteria.

PSYCHOSIS SCRIPTS DOUBLE FOR OLDER PEOPLE

Older Australians are being prescribed antipsychotic drugs at an “astonishing” rate which experts say indicates a potentially deadly overprescription for behaviour control in dementia patients. Story based on prescribing data obtained via freedom of information request.
